Bhoothnath Returns Hindi Movie Review

A producer cannot find a better release timing for their movie that is when the whole country is in the grip of election fever and here comes, Bhoothnath Returns. Not that this is a serious film on Indian Political system and the vast majority of corrupt politicians we have as our elected representatives. The sequel to the Big B starrer Bhoothnath in its own way presents or dwelt upon the corrupt election practices and the corrupt system we have here though in a light hearted and through a humorous approach.

Bhoothnath is at the receiving end of all the teases of the Bhooths in the Bhooth world as he failed to frighten a small child (part of the first installment) and he gets a second chance to come back to real world. But here situations take a turn and Bhoothnath decides to contest election ( a first time contest for a Bhooth) against Bhau a politician with criminal background.

The first half has ample doses of humour and comic situations to make the proceedings livelier and Big B along with the child artist Parth Bhalerao I should say has done a remarkable job. The second half takes an altogether different turn to give a serious tone to the film and in the process the film loses a bit with the predictability factor working against it.

But still the intentions are to be lauded for passing or conveying something good for the society in general. At 155 minutes the film is a tad too lengthier and had it been trimmed a bit, the lagging factor in the post intermission session could have been avoided.

Where the film scores primarily is the performance of Amitabh Bachchan, Boman Irani and Parth Bhalerao. Sanjay Mishra as the lawyer of Bhoothnath was also equally impressive with his comic act.

On the whole, the sequel is not a great product but a watchable above average one, thanks to the performances of the lead actors and the young boy.

I am going with 3 / 5 for this simple and sincere film that would have been a better product with some fine tuning.
