7th Day Malayalam Movie Review

Ringmaster BOX OFFICE
7th Day BOX OFFICE

7th Day, the debut movie of Syam Dhar and scripted by Akhil Paul presents a crime investigation in a different tone and succeeds in wooing the interest in the film from the very first shot and right through the final frame though the pace of the film is slow.

Not that this is one of the best investigative film ever from Mollywood but Seventh Day has the necessary suspense and couple of twists we expect from such genre of films and can be put in an above average category.

The story focuses on protagonist David Abraham, a 40+ cop played by Pritviraj (the twelfth one of his career) who is investigating a crime that is not there in any of the official records. The plot is narrated as a seven day event that begins from the late hours of Christmas stretching up to New Year’s Eve. The thing to be noted here is the investigator is on a suspension and hence the support of the official machinery is zero.

As I said, this cop character is Pritvi's twelfth but barring the cop roles he played in the early part of his career, the last ones have totally different feel to it, be it Mumbai Police or Memories. Situation is different here too and Pritvi has essayed the role with perfection though in terms of acting, he does not have much to perform here. Rest of the supporting casts like Vinay Fort, Sunil Sugatha, Anu Mohan, Shobha Mohan, Pravin Prem and Joy Mathew were fine in their respective roles.

Direction by newcomer Shyamdhar was notable and the presentation of the script without making the viewers bored has to be appreciated though the film runs at a leisurely pace. There are couples of loose ends in the script but that does not affect the picture in totality.

Sujith Vaasudev once again impressed with his fine camera works while edits were also on the positive side along with catchy background score by Deepak Dev.

To sum up things, I liked the way the film is narrated and would classify Seventh Day as a one-time watchable above average film though it is nowhere near my expectation. My rating is 3 / 5.
