Hangover Malayalam Movie Review

REVIEW : Follow The Cinema Company

"Hangover avasaanikkunnay illa". Thats the tag line of the movie Hangover directed by debutant Sreejith Sukumaran to an extent is correct and matches the tagline but the hangover of the movie is not on the positive side. We have a typical new gen (apologies for using that word very often these days but what to do I am helpless  )movie trying to ape many films that has hit Mollywood off late with the usual fun elements we are seeing these days. But the good thing is though the film has every ingredient of an NG movie it hasn't crossed that limit to make it too indecent.

A fun movie for the first half and a suspense drama towards the latter half narrating the friendship of four youths, Hangover tries desperately to put across something different especially the latter half with few twists but all in vain as the ending lands on a familiar tale which is far from convincing.

The story is narrated in a flash back mode where four carefree and fun loving youngsters (Aby, Noor, Appu and Kiran)taking centre stage. At a particular point certain incidents change everything for them.

The direction showed promise coming from a first timer and to prove his talent, Sreejith Sukumaran needed a tight script which sadly is missing here. The romantic track between Aby and Archana's character didn't synchronise with the storyline and this portion deserved a different treatment.

The acting department has Maqbool Salman who was ok as Aby while Bhagath Manuel and Govind Krishna backed up the supporting roles forming part of the four member team. The focus gradually shifts from Aby to Noor and the entire second half is focused on this character. Shine Tom Chacko has performed that role quite convincingly. Archana Gupta and Shrita Sivadas form the female leads without any significant screen presence.

Music was ok to hear while cinematography and cuts were fine.

In summary, Hangover with a weak storyline and loose script fails to make the cut and I am going with 2 / 5
